Campus Involvement

Better communication between stakeholders to ensure unified implementation of goals.

  • Based on the research conducted by Rojas on the University of British Columbia’s Food System Project (UBCFSP), it was determined that:

Communication between participants is key to successful implementation of any sustainable dining program.

All agents that are involved—individual students, student clubs/organizations, faculty, and university administration—must engage in regular communication.  This should be done to establish goals, and to determine the best methods for the goals’ completion.

• The researchers’ methods for collecting data included student course evaluations and annual meetings that brought together UBCFSP’s stakeholders.

The University of Michigan can facilitate communication by addressing sustainable eating in residence hall meetings.  Additionally, U of M could implement annual campus forums that gather students and administration to discuss sustainable dining issues.
